Mental Health Court Support


The Mental Health Court Support service provides support to individuals with a serious mental illness who have been charged with low-risk criminal offences. The Mental Health Court Support staff help people facing criminal charges who would be better served by the mental health system.

Services Offered


  •     Diversion from the criminal justice system to the mental health system
  •     Assessment of need and development of a recovery-oriented court diversion plan
  •     Referring to and accessing short-term and/or long-term services in the mental health system such as case management and supportive housing
  •     Education and consultation to other services within the court setting (e.g. judges, defense council, crown attorneys, etc.) relating to consumer issues, mental illness, mental health services and the mental health system.

Services Available To


Adults (16 yrs +) who are living with a serious mental illness and are presently involved with the court as a result of being charged with the criminal offense.

Ontario Court of Justice, 1000 Finch Avenue West, North York.

Make a Referral


If the person is before the court he/she can be referred to Cota’s Mental Health Court Support Service by anyone involved in the proceedings (e.g., the person who has been charged, family or friends, police, crown attorney, defense council, judge or other service providers).

Referrals are accepted directly at Cota’s Mental Health Court Support office within the court itself.
